Fake signs in Leith urging people to “please pick up after your horse” are now being removed by the Edinburgh City Council.
The signs were installed on trees along the water of Leith walkway displaying the Edinburgh City Council logo.
However, it has been confirmed that these signs were not installed officially by the council.
An ongoing investigation is taking place in an attempt to uncover who installed these signs without permission from the council in the area.

Councillor Scott Arthur, the convener of the Transport and Environment committee, stated in a post on social media that:
“This signage was not installed, or approved, by the City of Edinburgh Council Natural Heritage Team.”
The paths where these signs were installed are frequently in use by pedestrians and dog walkers in Leith.
Despite this, it is not prohibited for horse riders to use these areas, however there is no legislation which actually prevents horse fouling since it is not a significant health risk compared to other animals such as dogs.
A council spokesperson told The Student that:
“The site was visited last week and the signs have now been removed.”
