The Cameron Toll Roundabout is closed once again for essential infrastructure work, nearly a year after the initial partial shutdown.
The closure follows a collapsed culvert and gas works discovered in 2024, which led to a three-month roadwork project on the arterial route and surrounding area.
The ongoing project aims to install a new deck, waterproofing system, steelwork repairs, and upgraded low bridge warning signs, alongside vegetation management.
The work, delayed due to emergency utility repairs last year, is now expected to be completed by 11 April 2025.
This phase will include night-time single-lane closures from 18 January to 28 March, with a full closure scheduled between 5 February and 18 February.
The roundabout, which connects Lady Road and Dalkeith Road, was closed on November 28 2024 after a void was discovered beneath the carriageway during an overnight inspection.
Workers found the void could have caused a collapse, leading to emergency stabilisation efforts by Scottish Water.
The utility company filled the void and reinforced the surrounding ground, with additional work required to replace six metres of sewer pipe.
The emergency works were completed by December 5.
Ian Murray, MP for the area, provided an update on the full closure for railway bridge refurbishment, which has been rescheduled for March. He stated on facebook:
“For the full closure, the main diversion routes will be Peffermill Road, Niddrie Mains Road, the Wisp, and Old Dalkeith Road. I appreciate how frustrating this will be for everyone!“
