Top Of The World is currently being performed at theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, and follows the life of Audrey and her current phobias.
The performance begins with the main character, Audrey, on the Graham Norton show, or at least pretending that she is. Whilst the performance was set in the present day, it is clear that Audrey is still living in the early 2000s, and this is clearly portrayed on the stage through the set.
Whilst comedic, Top Of The World does highlight some serious issues Audrey has. It is explored that throughout her childhood and into her adult years that Audrey has been struggling with many different phobias; her present one is leaving the house, and at the point of the performance she hasn’t left for 12 days. Audrey wasn’t alone on stage – she is joined by her sister – and there is a discussion over how Audrey’s struggles have affected her as well. This was very thought provoking section of the performance.
I must note that I was sat on the second row and had a clear view of the stage, which was key as there is times were both of the actors are sat on the ground. This would definitely be something to bear in mind when choosing your seat.
The relationship between the sisters was well written, humorous, and incredibly relatable, and the writing was relevant which allowed the audience to have great enjoyment. All in all, Top Of The World is a witty show, which is well worth a watch!
