Black Blues Brothers: Let’s Twist Again! is an incredible show that defies all expectations, and somehow gravity too. The show is set in a smoky 1950s railway station where five brothers pass the time playing rock ‘n’ roll tunes on the jukebox and doing acrobatics, whilst waiting for their train.
The show is an upbeat mixed performance of dance and acrobatics, in combination with nostalgic rock’n’roll tracks. The performers remain cool throughout, despite their impressive tricks which include human pyramids, chair towers, and mid-air flips.
The show uses physicality and movement for comical gags such as flipping coins to see if the money should be used for the jukebox or the payphone, with the jukebox ultimately winning almost every time. The main plot involves one of the brothers suffering a romantic fallout over the payphone, as the other brothers try to lighten the mood by performing their acrobatic tricks as well as through dance.
The most impressive elements included human towers, which included one acrobat balancing their entire bodyweight solely on another’s head. Additionally, the use of a skipping rope included acrobats doing flips and handstands whilst jumping up and down within the swing of the rope. I have never been so impressed by acrobatics before, as the brothers seemed to defy all laws of gravity in a mesmerising way. The relaxed demeanors of the performers added to the effectiveness of the tricks, and they seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves throughout.
The show did not include any talking, as the acrobats solely communicated their story through music and movement. Overall, this is a great show for all ages that is incredibly fun and fast paced — it will certainly leave a smile on anyone’s face.
