There’s a certain aesthetic about strolling around Stockbridge without a plan. One minute you’re crossing the Water of Leith, the next you’re enticed by the smell of freshly baked goods, and lured by its quirky shops – you really are spoilt for choice.

A perfect way to begin your meandering is from Dean Village, walking along the babbling Water of Leith with the leaves rustling – especially beautiful in the golden shades of autumn. With plenty of local dogs running beside you, you’ll soon arrive in the heart of Stockbridge.

Whether you want to cosy up in a café, browse some of Edinburgh’s coolest boutique shops, or just explore, I think Stockbridge has something for everyone. Starting off strong, walk along Hamilton Place to reach the famous Lannan Bakery. Get there early to grab a delicious pastry and coffee to enjoy as you promenade amongst Georgian townhouses with those iconic sash windows. Turning right onto Kerr Street you enter the realm of independent and vintage clothing stores. A real treat for shopaholics.

Pop into VoxBox Music for a new vinyl record or treat yourself to a cheeky gelato at Joelato’s. And a classic way to end your exploring is with a turn onto Circus Lane. Cobblestones and ivy-draped houses make this a perfect Pinterest worthy photo spot.

Whether Stockbridge is in your plans to visit or you think you know it all, perhaps the best way to experience it is to forget the map and go wherever the wind takes you.
