Fringe 2024: Grace Campbell Is On Heat

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Grace Campbell is the ultimate girl’s best friend. Her show runs like an hour-long voice note to your nearest and dearest, detailing the intricacies of an interaction only they can know about. Hilarious, poignant, and incredibly touching, Campbell’s new show delves beneath the comedy, using it outlet for important messaging regarding abortion and the untold female experience.

Laughs are in abundance from the moment she graces the stage as no-holds-barred anecdotes and intimate sexual experiences are told, immediately breaking down any performer – audience barriers.

The show initially recounts Campbell’s experience having her King Charles Spaniel Eddie come on heat for the first time, amusingly stating she was jealous of the male dogs flocking to her attention. Her pharmacist Neil is also a key character as the constant supplier of the morning after pill, their interactions recreated in priceless detail.

After the opening tales of sexual exploits however, Campbell artfully draws on her experience accidentally becoming pregnant, and the unexpected moral dilemma she found herself in. In emotional detail she tells of deciding to abort the baby and falling into an unforeseen depressive and suicidal state that no one had warned her about. This intelligently written show managed to acutely blend comedy with a powerful and meaningful message championing women’s rights. Grace Campbell felt like a firm friend of hundreds as she ended the show to rapturous applause.
