Fringe 2024: Mitzi Fitz’s Glitzy Bitz

Rating: 1 out of 5.

Mitzi Fitz’s Glitzy Bitz presents an ensemble of colourful drag acts represented by Mitzi Fitz,
a Brooklyn-born talent agent, in a show that aims to delight and amuse. Unfortunately, the
concept is stronger than the execution. Whilst Mitzi Fitz herself performs an enjoyable stock
character, the chemistry between her and the others does not flow well and feels forced.
Whilst making promising attempts at witty repartee with the audience, the characters fall
short of quick wit and orchestrated gags, with some jokes not landing. That said, they are amusing, and the performance is not dry, nor is the crowd bored.

Individually the different acts are interesting concepts, but they could do with being a little
sharper with their banter. Ample opportunities were provided by audience members for hilarious interactions, but these moments were not seized upon. The nudity could also have been performed in a more enticing manner and felt overly brash. The costumes, however, were very detailed and interesting, as was the skilful make-up adorning the acts faces.

Ultimately, Mitzi Fitz’s Glitzy Bitz does not deliver the dazzling evening promised. Befuddled and underwhelmed, audiences are left with much to desire from this performance of clunky plot and half-made quips.
