FKA twigs has released a music video for single ‘Love Crimes’ from their project Eusexua Afterglow, in conjunction with the announcement of her BODY HIGH tour beginning in March. This sustains the creative momentum stimulated by preceding project Eusexua, released last January, which received widespread critical acclaim.
A closer look at ‘Love Crimes’ reveals the motivations behind its music video. Following an eerie intro, the track immediately pivots to a thudding kick that dominates the mix, leaving no doubts of Twigs’ intention to lean fully into the trance sound. There are none of the sonic thrills from previous projects, of multiple dynamic layers that create a sense of chaotic inhibition. Instead, ‘Love Crimes’ almost abandons the melodic highs altogether — excluding the vocal which itself is drenched in copious amounts of reverb.
When these elements are assembled, it leaves a lasting impression of disassociation. It’s no coincidence ‘Love Crimes’ received a music video; it effectively establishes the album’s tonal foundation — the delirious abandon of nocturnal city life. The additional tour announcement indicates that these themes will be expanded in live performances.
Overall, the track functions as the beginning of an intriguing new chapter in Eusexua’s evolution rather than the average single.
