Hidden Gems in Edinburgh: Kate’s

All I can think about this time of year is hot cross buns. Not just that, but specifically a Kate’s (homemade!) hot cross bun and a flat white on the side. And if she’s sold out of hot cross buns, then not to worry, because her counter is full of seasonal, freshly made cakes, cookies, scones and buns! Dare I say, the best bakes in Edinburgh… and in my opinion, the best coffee shop vibes too!

As a former employee, I may be biased, but it also means that I can give you the full rundown of just how amazing this coffee shop is. It’s the simple and subtle touches, like the fresh flowers and homemade jams. It’s the communal tables that make strangers seem familiar. It’s the fact that you can see into the kitchen at the back, where everything is being made from scratch and with love. It’s almost like you’re in Kate’s home! Not only does the food excel, but the drinks do too, with Santu coffee always served in the perfect mug. It’s the best way to pair a cake, in my opinion!

From families and retired couples to students and tourists, Kate’s attracts everyone. Whether you want to catch up with a friend, read a book or grab a freshly made treat, then get yourself down to 116 Causwayside. You’ll be greeted with a smile and leave with a full heart and belly. It truly is a gem, and so is Kate herself.
