Your Party to stand in Holyrood election

Your Party members have voted to stand in the upcoming Scottish Parliamentary elections, with 69.8 per cent in support of the motion.

The vote was one of several at the founding conference of the party’s Scottish branch, which took place on the weekend of 7-8 February, with an estimated 300 people in attendance.

Zarah Sultana gave a speech after the result, in which she argued: “Scottish people deserve better than a politics that wears the veneer of progressivism while still pushing through cuts that decimate our communities, and that’s what you get with the SNP and the Greens.”

Members also voted to back Scottish independence, with Jeremy Corbyn, who co-founded the party with Zarah Sultana in 2025, telling the conference that it should be up to the people of Scotland whether there is another referendum.

The Labour government’s lack of popularity has led to a decrease in support for Scottish Labour, according to recent polls, supposedly leaving a gap on the Left which Your Party Scotland could fill.

However, tensions within Your Party—despite initially appearing successful with over 600,000 sign-ups in the first few weeks—have left some doubting their potential as an electoral force.

One second year politics student told The Student: “I think Your Party risks dividing the left more by taking votes away from other parties.”

“Scots don’t know Your Party at all in my opinion so I can’t imagine they will do very well [in the upcoming election].”

The Scottish Parliamentary elections will take place on 7 May 2026.
