“When jobs are compromised, resistance is justified:” Gordon Aikman occupation continues

The occupation of Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre by University of Edinburgh Students Against Scabs and Edinburgh University Justice for Palestine Society (EUJPS) remains ongoing as of 21 October.

At approximately 11:40am students who were occupying the building were heard chanting “when jobs are compromised, resistance is justified” in support of striking staff.

They then reiterated their demands for financial transparency surrounding staff cuts and a divestment from companies complicit in genocide, chanting: “disclose, divest, we will not stop, we will not rest.”

The occupation is in support of the five-week University and College Union (UCU) strikes, which have now entered their fourth week. They dispute the cuts of 90 degree programmes and 1800 jobs. The UCU and EUJPS also demand divestment from companies entangled in Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

A few students walked past cheering or clapping in support.

Two members of the university security team were on site observing the scene, but declined to comment.
