Potterrow’s new menu items take inspiration from Teviot

Potterrow’s Bar and Kitchen, the building’s primary restaurant, has expanded its menu in response to the increased traffic following the closure of Teviot Row House in 2023. This new menu features a wide array of burgers, pizzas, and snacks catering to a wide variety of tastes. Student reception to these changes has been positive.

The refurbishment of Teviot Row House has placed increased pressure on the Potterrow Dome–especially its dining options–to fulfil student demand.

Neda, a first-year student studying medical science, favourably compared Potterrow’s menu prices to many restaurants in the area. The Bar and Kitchen offers a burger and fries for just £7, while other restaurants in the area might charge twice as much for similar items.

Two students who have visited Potterrow nearly every day since the beginning of term noted that they were satisfied with the student centre, particularly its “quite convenient location”.

“Other universities’ unions are just unions,” commented one diner. “Here, it’s more like a restaurant or beer garden”.

According to EUSA VP John Rappa, the improved menu is just a part of a larger program designed to improve the student experience. “Following Teviot’s closure, Potterrow underwent a whole space refurbishment,” said Rappa. “Including changes to upper dome, the bar area and the addition of the Box Bar”.

“We are really excited for Teviot’s reopening next year,” said Rappa when asked about the Association’s longer-term strategy. “We are still finalizing plans, but the Teviot menu will be based on what students are enjoying most at Potterrow”.

“We’ll make sure to keep students updated with any Teviot news”.
