Former First Minister Humza Yousaf has criticised Elon Musk’s comment on the tragic murder of Kriss Donald.
In 2004, Kriss Donald was murdered at 15 years of age by men associated with a Pakistani gang in a racially motivated attack. His perpetrators abducted him in Glasgow, stabbed him repeatedly, and set him on fire.
A post on X, formerly Twitter, on 6 January from @KeithWoodsYT about the case brought it to the attention of Elon Musk.
The owner of X retweeted the post with the caption “First time I’ve heard of this.”
Humza Yousaf took issue with Musk’s exploitation of the case to spread anti-immigrant sentiment.
Yousaf informed Musk that Mohammad Sarwar, a Scottish-Pakistani MP, was instrumental in bringing Kriss Donald’s killers to justice.
In an interview with the BBC, Yousaf elaborated on his disaffections towards Musk. He asserted Musk was a “far-right agitator” seeking to “amplify horrific incidents that are committed by people of colour.”
Yousaf also said the only way to combat Musk’s comments is to “confront the hatred” he is spreading.
Musk’s comments follow his previous attacks on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s handling of the Southport stabbings, as well as previous failures to tackle grooming gangs across Scotland.
Edinburgh University students have indicated their support for Yousaf. One said he was “perfectly” addressing Musk’s “right-wing agenda.” Another voiced their worries about Musk becoming “increasingly involved in UK politics.”
