The year 2025 is shaping up to be a year full of five-star reads so here are a few to pick up as soon as they hit the shelves.
Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor: 14th January
With her life currently in shambles, Zelu decides to write a new book completely unlike her others. But perhaps the most unexpected part about this new book is the fact that everyday life seems to be mirroring it, blurring the line between the pages and the world in front of her. Whilst I haven’t read anything from this author before, all you need is a story within a story to pull me in.
Katabasis by R.F Kuang: 26th August
I am not embarrassed to admit that I will read anything that R.F. Kuang puts out there, but this might be her most exciting novel yet. Katabasis explores the journey of two academic rivals from Cambridge as they travel to the underworld to rescue the soul of their advisor. Yes, you read that right, and honestly, I feel that is all that needs to be said. I must get my hands on this book as soon as possible.
Sunrise on The Reaping by Suzanne Collins: 18th March
It would be impossible to get through this shortlist without mentioning the new instalment in The Hunger Games series. Never would I have thought that this would be coming to us in the year 2025 but here I am, anxiously waiting for it. The newest novel takes place 24 years before the first and digs into the past of the jaded Haymitch Abernathy, who is trying to survive the second Quarter Quell. Whether this book will live up to expectations and take its place next to the original trilogy as classics of our generation, I am unconvinced. Nonetheless, I’m sure we are all excited to be transported back to our 2014 YA dystopian era.
