Sports Union Election Results

Last week saw the University of Edinburgh’s Sports Union elect a new leadership team for next year. Voting closed on Thursday March 6, with the new committee members announced later that day.

A multitude of positions were up for grabs. Four candidates were in the running for the presidency, Florian Garland Hoff, Lilly Atkinson, Liv Stevens and Vlada Medvedeva, with Liv Stevens proving successful in the end.

Five of the roles saw uncontested votes; Emma Millar became the new Vice President of Intramural sport, Madeleine Bell became the new Vice President of Inclusion, Ciaran Buckley was named Honorary Treasurer, Dan Kelly was named the Intramural Sport Coordinator, and finally Moses Weintraub was announced as the Partnership and Inclusion officer.

Elsewhere, the race to become the next Media Officer was won by Connie Chen, and Alexander Dixon came out on top in a three-way race to become the Wellbeing and Inclusion Officer. Greg Mitchell was named the SU’s new Participation Officer.

For SU members, both those who participate in the wide range of University Sports Clubs, and users of Pleasance, these elections could impact the experience of university sport.

Recent updates to both Pleasance and Peffermill underline the ever-shifting nature of university sport, as sports unions up and down the country engage in a constant balancing act to juggle costs and performance in a productive manner.

The new Edinburgh SU committee will certainly have to carry this forward, and time will tell how successful they will be in this.
