Why are we Obsessing over Pilates?

This is it: we are entering our health era. Goodbye to the sticky floors of Why Not and hello 7am Pilates. We’ve all seen the flared legging-clad, matcha-drinking girls around George Square, looking superior because they were up doing Pilates while the rest of us were still in bed.

So, what’s the hype about? Is this really the one-way road to washboard abs and super-strength?

Pilates is more than just a trendy way to get toned; incorporating aspects of Yoga, the workout focuses on flexibility and building bone and muscle strength. It’s available to people of all fitness abilities – and genders!

I would recommend Maeve Pilates Studio, with more affordable on-the-mat small group classes using light weights, but the famous Tribe Pilates offers classes on the reformer, a machine which aids alignment and allows for a wide range of exercises, ideal if you have a looser budget.

A great strength training option (especially if you’re overwhelmed by the gym!) with a wide variety of classes, I would highly encourage you to give Pilates a go.
