On Friday 14 March Edinburgh University Students Association (EUSA) announced the election winner for the position of Vice President (VP) Community.
Akrit Ghimire was confirmed as the successful candidate.
Ghimire’s manifesto included pledges to improve food quality and prices on campus, celebrating diverse cultures, and subsidising bus fares for students over 22.
The result for this position was delayed by a week, after the other successful candidates were announced on EUSA’s election night ceremony on Friday 7 March.
In a social media post EUSA said:
“Results for the Vice President Community could not be finalised within the normal elections timeline due to us receiving a complaint about candidate conduct.
“During the past week this has been investigated and concluded in line with agreed process, and we are now able to announce results for the Vice President Community role.”
Ghimire now joins the team of five Sabbatical Officers for academic year 2025/26.
The other Sabbatical roles have been fulfilled by Ash Scholz (President), John Rappa (VP Activities and Services), Kat Amott (VP Education), and Syjil Ramjuthan (VP Welfare).
The Student is currently writing a feature length piece explaining the VP Community dispute, which will be published next week.
