A Stylish Coffee Retreat in the Heart of Edinburgh: Burr and Co.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Situated on George Street in Edinburgh’s New Town, Burr & Co. is a charming café that offers more than just a caffeine fix. As the coffee bar of the InterContinental Hotel (The George), it seamlessly blends the elegance of a high-end hotel with the inviting warmth of an independent café. Whether you’re in need of a quiet working spot, a mid-shopping pick-me-up, or a leisurely afternoon treat, Burr & Co. delivers on all fronts.

The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a beautifully designed interior that balances sophistication with a relaxed atmosphere. Natural light floods the space, making it a refreshing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. The friendly and attentive staff add to the welcoming ambiance. Even the bathrooms, located inside the hotel, are an unexpected luxury—grand, polished, and reminiscent of a five-star retreat.

Burr & Co. attracts a diverse crowd: business partners unwinding over coffee, hotel guests easing into a day of exploration, and freelancers tapping away on laptops in quiet corners. With its fast Wi-Fi and ample seating, it’s an excellent spot for remote work or study sessions. However, it’s not all about screens and deadlines—friends of all ages gather here for a catch-up over a cappuccino or an indulgent pastry.

For those who enjoy outdoor seating, the café’s summer setup is particularly inviting. And if you fancy something a little stronger, Burr & Co. serves cocktails from 11 a.m., including refreshing spritzes and rich espresso martinis. They also offer a curated selection of wine, beer, and cider for a more laid-back afternoon treat.

When it comes to pricing, Burr & Co. offers the feel of an independent café with prices that rival big coffee chains. A cappuccino or latte will set you back £3.80, while a mocha comes in at just £3.90. Their range of syrups adds an extra touch of creativity—our iced lattes with lavender and raspberry syrups were delightful. Beyond coffee, the menu includes a variety of teas, smoothies, and soft drinks.

The food selection is just as impressive. We sampled the rhubarb and raspberry cake, which was beautifully balanced in sweetness and texture. Their toasties and baguettes were equally satisfying, making for a well-rounded and enjoyable meal.

Whether you’re shopping in New Town or unwinding after a museum visit, Burr & Co. is a must-visit destination. With its elegant surroundings, top-tier coffee, and relaxed atmosphere, it earns a well-deserved 4.5 out of 5 stars.
