Strike action at Edinburgh Airport called off after new pay deal

Strike action planned for later this month at Edinburgh Airport was called off after a new pay deal was accepted, as announced by Unite on 19 September 2025.

The hundreds of workers set to take part in a series of stoppages are a part of the OCS Group, a services company that is responsible for aiding people with mobility issues.

OCS workers are responsible for assisting passengers, loading wheelchairs, and operating ambilift vehicles onto aircrafts.

The initial offer made by the OCS group was the lowest possible offer of £12.60 per hour

This is only slightly more than the National Minimum Wage and was strongly rejected, leading  to plans for strike action.

The new pay deal will see workers receive a 6.1 per cent increase on hourly rates effective from 1 January 2025; an increase to the overtime rate;  a five per cent increase on hourly rates beginning from 1 January 2026; and improvements to the company’s sick pay scheme.

A Unite spokesperson told The Student: “The threat of strike action significantly increased the pay offer as we say from where negotiations began.”
