Beyond the senses: the return of ECFS

The Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show is back for another year! Following the success of their ‘Mirror, Mirror’ show last year, this year’s show aims to push the boundaries of senses with the theme ‘Synaesthesia’.

The chairwoman this year, Ana Aritio, described the theme as “the neurological intertwining of the senses where the ordinary boundaries between perceptions blur”, promising an enriching sensory experience where creativity is combined with the fundamentals of human experience. The show encourages and platforms young creatives from across Edinburgh and beyond, “transforming their talent into a catalyst for fundraising.” With a committee of over 45 students and creatives across Edinburgh, ECFS places creativity and young people at the heart of its work, ensuring opportunities for both creative and professional growth.

Nonetheless, at the core of the show lies its charitable mission. This year, the show will be supporting Capability Scotland, “a foundation that has been empowering disabled children, young people, and adults for the past 75 years with the goal of fostering a society where everyone can fulfil their potential.” In the words of the chairwoman, this ‘synergy’ between charity and creativity “incentivises innovation, but also ensures the show nourishes the artists, audiences, and causes we support”.

Aside from its annual fashion show in March, various events will also be held throughout the year with the goal of supporting Capability Scotland. These range from charity ceilidhs and yoga workshops to club nights. These events aim to be as inclusive as possible, straying from the typical student socials of pubs and clubs. Nonetheless, the first event in the ECFS calendar will be the launch party on 1st October at The Bongo Club. Tickets are available now, and as with all they do, purchases will support the work of Capability Scotland.

This year’s show and calendar promises to thrill and entice. To conclude with the words of the chairwoman: “Our aim this year is to push the Show beyond the visual, creating a multi-sensory experience that celebrates inclusivity and imagination, dissolves boundaries, and brings together diverse voices and talents in support of Capability Scotland.”
