A guide to the best autumnal spots around Edinburgh

This past week, Edinburgh has gifted us with unusually clear skies and sunlight. But as September comes to an end, we are entering a new stage of transition. As we get back into our university routines, whether you are a new student or back from a summer away, this month can best be encapsulated as one of change.

Edinburgh’s nature spots are reflecting this transition as leaves have slowly started to crisp into yellow and red hues. With this in mind, I have compiled a short guide of the best places to appreciate one of Edinburgh’s most exciting seasons: autumn!

1. Cafés

Kate’s: Right on Causewayside road, past the meadows, Kate’s is a café with a gorgeous wooden and autumnal interior, delicious bakes and coffee! Its cosy and home-like atmosphere makes it the perfect place to meet up with a friend for a chat or unwind after a study session.

Cappuccino: This cafe’s decoration is in a similar fashion to Kate’s, but its fairy lights, fireplace and view of Calton Hill are what make it truly special. Perfect to enjoy Edinburgh’s autumnal views as you study.

2. Nature Spots

Salisbury Crags: A classic spot to enjoy the sunset before it gets too windy and cold. It’s an easier walk than Arthur’s seat, with the golden view over the Royal Mile, the Pentlands, and other landmark sites worth seeing as the sun sets.

3. Pubs

Steel Coulson: With a mesh of burgundy walls and warm lighting, the large selection of unique ales makes it a perfect seasonal spot to spend time with your flatmates after a long day of classes.

As the season finally changes, hopefully, this guide inspires you to visit the best spots to appreciate the city in this new season.
