A Guide to the Perfect Night In

As Autumn has begun, and the days are getting darker, the motivation to commit to a night out is dwindling. After all, who can be bothered to get glam, drink and make the trek out to the club? Luckily, we do not have to go out every single night in the autumn and winter months. Instead, we can indulge in the luxurious comfort of the perfect night in. Whether that be a baking night, move night or craft night, there are so many ways to have a good time without having to leave your flat!

One cheap way to enjoy a night in and recharge your mental battery is through a baking night with flatmates. As university students, of course, we do not want to buy all the separate ingredients to indulge our baking desires, which is why baking kits come in super handy. Usually, all you need to do is add an egg or some oil, mix the batter together, and whack it in the oven. Then you have a great success, an easy bake, which you can enjoy eating even more than normal because of the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself.  Whilst it is only a little thing, it can still really lift a night in, acting as a sort of achievement, and who doesn’t enjoy eating a baked good?

Additionally, this could be coupled with a movie night. Take your baked goods and gather around a TV, or more commonly a laptop, and watch a classic autumnal romcom like When Harry Met Sally or everyone’s childhood favourite Halloween film: Hocus Pocus. The options are truly endless, and it can be so enjoyable to just sit with your friends and watch something together. This experience can easily be elevated too. Decorations, such as fairy lights or candles, can create a warm sense of ambience.  Also, making a hot chocolate on top of all of this would really embrace the cosy vibe and render the night utterly perfect.

Alternatively, if your flat is still not feeling quite like home yet, a craft night can kill two birds with one stone. It can make your living space more welcoming, as well as being a lot of fun. Whether you are naturally gifted with a glue gun and glitter or have absolutely no artistic talent, it can still be fun to get crafty with a group. Things you could make could include: name signs for your door, paper chains for your kitchen, or a classic uni piece of a décor: the behaviour chart. Whatever craft you decide to partake in, and however well it turns out, it is a guaranteed way to have fun and a good laugh if it truly does go horribly.

There are an endless number of ways to enjoy a night in during this cosy time of year, so do not feel any pressure to have a night out. It will be hot girl summer again soon enough after all…
