Rachel Chinouriri’s collaboration with Boyish, ‘Home’, is a beautiful exhalation into autumnal hibernation. The track is what we’d expect from Chinouriri; raw emotional honesty delivered with soft evocative vocals. It feels like a stripped-down exploration of the pessimism that comes with the cold months.
It’s definitely more minimalistic than her debut album but carries the same effortless beauty as the acoustic single ‘All I Ever Asked’. The lyricism of this one really hits as a student, which makes it an easy pairing with a stroll through The Meadows. Light guitar strums, chased by gentle harmonies and the violin, the single takes into consideration what and where home is.
The tone is conflicting — while it is honestl very sad, (it brought a tear to my eye!), it allows for optimism: the seasonal themes of decay and growth encourage you into bed, to be wrapped in a blanket, forgiving yourself for all the things left on your to-do list. All things considered, I only wish there was more of it!
