Adéla caught the world’s attention with her breakout single, ‘Ain’t In LA’, and is yet to let it go. With its catchy hook, synth pop beat, and nostalgic early 2010s sound, this alt-pop hit is an instant crowd pleaser with an inspirational message behind it.
The opening verse narrates the story of the singer’s mother, who grew up with big ambitions but was forced to give them up. Living in a small town in Slovakia, she was “taught that/Her dreams don’t live at home” and that she was too far away from cultural epicentres, like Los Angeles, to have any chance at success.
Adéla criticises this glorified idea of oversaturated cultural capitals like LA, arguing that the coolest people, with the most potential, aren’t in them at all. Instead, they are scattered around the world – often in the smallest towns and countries that typically go unnoticed. She defiantly claims that she’d “Rather be a nobody than to be like everyone,” reminding listeners of the importance of taking pride in their own identities and stressing that they shouldn’t change themselves just to fit the mould.
In her recent music, Adéla champions individualism and self-love whilst cementing herself as a musician to look out for.
