Sports to play in your flat

Two flatmates play corridor cricket.

When it’s nearing freezing temperatures outside, it’s a given that you want to stay inside. Inside, even in your little flat, where there’s no room. So to make the most of the space, here is some sport you can play with your flatmates within the confines of your own four walls! If you don’t feel like going out to the gym or societies (although that’s also strongly recommended), you can have just as much fun in your home.

Beer Pong – The undisputed king of tiny flat sport. If you had to imagine a fun game to play with your flatmates, I guarantee it was beer pong. An easy game to set up; all you need is a table and cups of beer to get the ball rolling (or bouncing, I suppose). Feel free to switch the beer out for a non-alcoholic alternative – no one will mind! It’s not a prerequisite, and the technical aspect is the part people really care about anyway.

Balloon Volleyball – Bear with me here: balloon volleyball is a sport that can get just as competitive as any other game. We’ve all done it at a party when there was an extra balloon floating about, and now we raise the stakes. Tie a piece of string between two chairs so you have a net to hit the balloon over. Now you can safely dive after a slow falling ball without having to worry about breaking your TV!

Hallway Bowling – Bowling just got a whole lot cheaper with this one. Just line up 10 empty cans or toilet roll (or anything, really) at the end of your corridor, and get bowling with a tennis ball! Or if you don’t have one, a rolled-up sock works too. Just make sure you get it back at the end…

Darts – If you’ve determined that all your flatmates have expert aim, a magnetic dartboard is a safe investment. It’s a classic pub sport that doesn’t require a lot of space, just focus. This is a personal favorite of mine, simply because it’s a fairly quick game. No set up required, and you can use it whenever you want!
