In Jojo Orme’s, also known as Heartworms’, second and latest single ‘Retributions of an Awful Life,’ the poet and musician explores her ability to create her own sound through an unexpected yet beautiful cacophony of noise, unifying elements of avant-garde post-punk and goth.
Through the brazenly reverbed guitar riffs and her impressive vocal delivery, which almost instantaneously switches from cold to passionate and violent, Orme evokes a true sense of dystopia, further implied through her dark lyricism that evokes stark yet somehow enigmatic imagery.
With singles like ‘Retributions of an Awful Life’ and ‘Consistent Dedication’ (released in September 2022), Jojo Orme has begun shaping a very different and unique path within the post-punk genre, opening up new possibilities and explorations that few have done yet . Having recently been signed by Speedy Wunderground and announced her debut EP scheduled to be released on the 24th of March, it will be interesting to see the London based artist’s growth in these early stages of her career.
