Police Scotland advise people to avoid Niddrie area as fireworks and petrol bombs thrown at officers

Riot Police were called to the Hay Avenue area in Niddrie, in response to anti-social behaviour.

An alert was published on X, formerly known as twitter, at 8.32 PM.

Edinburgh City Council has warned Edinburgh residents to “avoid the Niddrie area until further notice.”

Police Scotland Edinburgh also stated: “Officers are being attacked with fireworks, petrol bombs and other projectiles.”

“Some local roads are closed.”

“Please avoid the area for the time being while we respond.”

Videos have circulated online showing fireworks being directed at police.

Edinburgh Live reported that anti-social behaviour “began to escalate around 4.30pm and that Police Scotland have closed the roads in the area.”
