Pro-Palestine protesters hold student walkout

Around two hundred protesters staged a walk-out organised by Justice for Palestine Society on Friday 24th November.

The protesters started at the main library at 2:30pm, they then walked around George Square and ended in the Quad at Old College.

While marching protesters were heard chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “Free, Free Palestine”.

Once they arrived in the quad, speeches were held while other protesters went into lecture theatres encouraging other students to join the protest.

At the protest a banner was unfurled from a window which lists over 1,600 names of Palestinians who have been killed since the recent escalation of the conflict.

This protest comes after an email was sent by Vice-Principal of Students Colm Harmon and Deputy Secretary of Students Lucy Evans, following a Pro-Palestine ‘sit-in’ at the Main Library on 17th November.

The email stated: “We know from your emails and conversations with us – and those from staff too – that this demonstration and others like it increasingly make parts of our community feel threatened and scared.”

In speeches held at the protest students criticised this email.
