With 2023 over, the latest wave of TikTok trends have arrived for the new year, and with
it comes our ‘Ins & Outs’ for 2024. So, sit back, relax, and let me tell you what I think is
going to be big for the next 12 months.
To begin with, sorry Pinterest, but skinny scarves are out for 2024, and chunky scarves
are in – the more colour the better. Convenience and warmth come above fashion this
winter, and whilst you’re at it, add a pair of earmuffs to make sure you stay toasty and
stylish in this stormy season.
But, don’t throw away your skinny scarves just yet! Consumerism is also out for
2024 – outfit repeating and supporting your local independent stores is in. Start reusing
and recycling what you already own, and why not pick up a new hobby while you’re at
it? With the popularity of thrift shopping not going away anytime soon, learning how to sew
and tailor your own clothes is a necessity, after all. My favourite vintage store remains
Scotland-based Armstrongs, and with three locations close to the university, there’s
never been a better time to shop second-hand.
Macro trends are also back this year – there’s only so many ways to rebrand the
minimalist aesthetic (clean girl, vanilla girl, that girl…) and I fear we’re running out.
Instead of trying to figure out if you’re style is more old money or Lana Del Rey coded,
just call it classy and move on. Whilst we’re on it, I believe we’re also returning to the
smoky eye looks of the 2014 era; if we’re sticking to microtrends, then messy rockstar
will definitely be gaining popularity this spring.
Nevertheless, bows and cherry red nail polish is certainly here to stay; these looks have
always been popular throughout the last few decades, and I can’t see it disappearing
anytime soon.
Potlucks and house parties are predicted to gain traction in 2024. Forget clubbing with
strangers, bugging the downstairs neighbours in a small scale party or candle-lit dinners
with close friends is where it’s at.
But what’s really out in 2024, is basing your lifestyle choices on the top TikTok trends of
the week. Originality is back and better than ever.
