Headshot of a man

Fringe 2024: Graham Kay: Pete And Me

Rating: 5 out of 5.

In the sweltering humidity of Monday evening, on a makeshift stage inside the Patter Hoose, Graham Kay took to the stage and began winning us all over one by one in his stand-up show: Pete And Me (A Non-Depressing Look At Autism and Family)

Confronted with a small audience and very split age groups (some immediately on board with power ranger references and some not) Kay’s conversational and highly witty style expertly brought the crowd together for his set.

Through absurd one-liners, Kay told the story of his family and showed us the world through the eyes of his autistic brother Pete. From childhood to daily phone calls, to contemplating his future as Pete’s caretaker, we see Kays utter love and respect for his brother and brings attention to a very misunderstood spectrum condition.

Kay delves into his own relationships and mental health so hilariously beautifully that I cannot give it any justice, you just have to go listen and laugh for yourself. Masterfully funny, and incredibly emotional, I truly wished there were more people in the room that evening.

Graham Kay: Pete And Me is running 6-25 Aug (not 12) at Gilded Balloon – The Dram. Tickets available here.
