Trains Between Edinburgh And Newcastle To Be Severely Disrupted

Weekend train services running between Newcastle and Edinburgh are due to be severely disrupted until the end of September.

Trains will not run this route on 21 and 22 September and are set to operate on a severely reduced timetable on 28 and 29 September.

The disruption is due to engineering works requiring the closure of almost all lines.

Five miles of track will be replaced in the engineering project that the Northumberland Gazette reports will cost upwards of £9m.

Stations between Newcastle and Edinburgh include Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick and Dunbar.

Journeys to or from Liverpool Lime Street, London Kings Cross, Birmingham New Street will be amongst those most affected.

Train operators affected by the engineering works include Lumo, LNER, CrossCountry and ScotRail.

Bus replacement services will be operating between Newcastle and Edinburgh, but will see journey times extended by up to two hours.

The rail replacement bus station in Edinburgh for those using LNER, CrossCountry, and TransPennine Express will be St Andrew Square.

For ScotRail customers, this will be Waterloo Place.

On 28 and 29 September, there will be no Lumo service, including replacement buses, between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

The National Rail website has more information on the engineering work, replacement bus services, and timetables.

The disruption is unrelated to the industrial action recently cancelled by the Aslef union that would have limited LNER service on weekends until November.
