Destination Hillend’s Alpine Coaster Opens

The longest alpine roller coaster in the UK has opened in Edinburgh Midlothian.

The ride opened on the 14th of September. It is 980 metres long and has an expected duration time of three minutes.

It is designed so visitors can control their own speed while moving downhill. The maximum speed is 45kmph.

This ride is one of several projects for Destination Hillend. Other initiatives include a new freestyle ski slope, an expansion of parking spaces to allow a larger public intake, and the construction of a new A702 junction.

Destination Hillend has been in construction since May 25. When the project is completed, it is expected to create “more than £1 million of income annually,” for the Midlothian council as well as 157 full time jobs.

According to BBC News, Ms Parry, the Council Leader, remarked the coaster as “the ride of your life.”

Other visitors have shared their experiences. In a YouTube video, @RollerBazandCoasterDad described the ride as “fun as hell”.

Tickets for the Coaster are priced at £7 per ride, with a special offer of three rides for £19 when booked through the Midlothian Council website

To ride alone, visitors must be over eight years old and at least 1.4 meters tall. Children between ages four and eight can ride with a guardian who meets the height and age requirements.
