As we settle into autumn, there’s nothing like grabbing a maple latte and heading to your favourite bookstore to escape the cold. To help you make the most of the season, we’ve compiled a list of the best upcoming events you don’t want to miss!
Radical Book Fair 2024 “From Where We Stand”
21st- 24th November
Celebrating thirty years of radical book shopping on West Nicholson Street, Assembly Roxy will host this year’s Radical Book Fair where the Edinburgh literary community will come together to discuss the power of resistance and protest in literature. If you want to get involved earlier, Lighthouse Bookshop is hosting its launch party on October 12th for a chance to preview this year’s panels, workshops and stalls.
Topping & Company
There is something on for everyone in the wide range of events hosted by Topping & Company over the next month. Highlights include an evening with Carol Ann Duffy, the opportunity to discuss Sharon Blackie’s Wise Women, a collection of mythological retellings, and a visit from If We Were Villains’ M.L Rio to discuss her new book Graveyard Shift.
Blackwell’s Bookshop
Like Topping and Company, Blackwell’s boasts an exciting lineup of events taking place this autumn. Working alongside Capital Theatre, Blackwell’s has launched a free theatre book club that meets before selected shows to discuss the books they’re based on. This month’s pick is Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express– a perfect cosy crime for those autumnal evenings.
University Book Club
After meeting last week to discuss Deborah Levy’s August Blue, the popular society will be reuniting at the end of the month to discuss October’s book Bunny by Mona Awad described as “The Secret History meets Jennifer’s Body”. The university’s many book clubs are a great way to meet like-minded literature fanatics.
Femsoc Book Club
