In the decade of de-influencing and anti-hauls, some wonder whether trends are still relevant. However, the Pinterest and TikTok feeds of this fashion-forward generation beg to differ.
This autumn welcomes the continuation of the resurging 2000s (a.k.a. ‘Y2K’) fashion trends with a handful of 80s influences delivered on a bold and maximalist note. Below are some of Lifestyle’s favourite jewellery trends that you do not want to miss this autumn.
Charms — one of the staple jewellery items of Y2K fashion, is back in business. From luxury fashion brand runways (notably the Coach AW2024 runway show featuring the viral charms on its signature bags) to music videos of pop stars, the versatility of charms means that they find themselves in every corner of people’s outfits. Expect to see charms on belts, necklaces, glasses, shoes, bags, and even dog leashes! Coming in different shapes and forms, charms would be a perfect conversation starter. Perhaps you are wearing a charm you bought this summer on holiday or a charm with your partner’s initials — the possibilities are infinite.
Inspired by the internet-sensational ‘office siren’ look, thick-framed glasses are ‘in’ this autumn as well. Now is the time to get playful with different types of frames and colours to give a main character moment to your eyewear. Special credits must go to the Korean eyewear brand GENTLE MONSTER for playing an influential role in popularising the trend across social media.
Bold, metallic jewellery is also having its moment with the continued popularity of the ‘boho-chic’ aesthetic. This trend is all about layering statement necklaces, earrings, and bangles that embrace all kinds and combinations. And yes, this includes mixing gold and silver, whether you like it or not. This autumn is the time to take the risk and go full-out with your jewellery!
Despite already being one of the most highlighted trends of 2024, bandanas and scarves are going nowhere. Styled with autumn outfits (anything from a denim jacket to a leather coat) paisley bandanas will serve as the cherry on top- whether it is on your head or tied around your waist.
Finally, most of these trends are not only easy to partake in, but also the perfect opportunity to buy second-hand rather than fast-produced jewellery. Why not go on a hunt in your local charity shop to find what truly resonates with you? This autumn is about making jewellery personal, so let your jewellery tell a story- boldly and beautifully.
