Great British Energy announce partnership with Scottish public bodies

The UK’s newly formed and publicly owned energy company, Great British Energy (GBE) and the Scottish Government have announced a partnership in an effort to maximize delivery and efficiency.

To be headquartered in Aberdeen, GBE intends to boost the investment and development of supply chains and infrastructure to increase the delivery of clean energy technologies, building on Scotland’s already strong offshore wind developments.

Additionally, this partnership will result in the creation of more jobs in the energy industry and help incentivise the move into the renewable energy sector.

A ‘skills passport’, an industry-backed initiative, supported by the UK and Scottish governments, aimed at helping workers make the career move from oil and gas to clean energy.

The partnership will also help foster collaboration between GBE and Scottish public bodies, such as Crown Estate Scotland, as well as expanding the relationships between the governments.

Scotland’s Acting Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Energy Gillian Martin says she “[welcomes] this collaborative agreement” and that she “[looks] forward to working with Great British Energy to ensure it delivers real benefits for the people of Scotland and a just energy transition”.

To help ensure delivery of shared priorities and the transition into clean energy across the UK, discussions of similar partnerships are being had with the Welsh Government and their publicly-owned renewable energy developer, Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, as well as the Northern Ireland Executive.
