Organisers have recently announced that former First Minster Nicola Sturgeon and award-winning writer, Val McDermid are expected to host a Christmas themed book event in Edinburgh.
The event is titled, “In The Company of Books,” and will take place on 15 December at Assembly Halls. The guests will discuss “the joys of reading” over a “glass of mulled wine”.
Sturgeon was first female first minister of Scotland. She currently represents the Glasgow Southside constituency.
McDermid is an award-winning Scottish Crime writer who authored the series “Wire in the Blood.”
Sturgeon and McDermid shared in a joint statement describe how, despite their friendship seeming “improbable” their “love of books” brought them together and “remains the mainstay of that friendship”
The pair are expected to be joined by special guests however they have not yet been announced.
After this event, Sturgeon and McDermid will host another in Glasgow, at the International Comedy Festival.
A spokesperson for producers of Edinburgh’s Christmas have said this event is a big part of Edinburgh’s Christmas: “we are thrilled to have Val and Nicola bring their in-conversation event to Edinburgh’s Christmas this year”.
This will be one of Sturgeons first non-political public appearances.
