Wellness Tip: Reframing Negativity

Negative thoughts can be pesky and eat away at us, especially when faced with the pressure of succeeding at university. Luckily, you have the power to reframe them. When you find self-doubt creeping in, try replacing that negativity with a positive thought of “What if…?”.

To break it down: “What if I’m not good enough?” can easily be reframed as “What if I get the promotion?”. Instead of thinking, “What if I fail?” ask yourself, “What if I do better than I ever have before?”.

Reframing negative thoughts through these simple positive questions helps break a pessimistic cycle and realise that positive thinking allows us to see the world through opportunities, as opposed to great obstacles.

Just remember, next time you find yourself in a mental battle, take a deep breath and ask yourself “What if I succeed?” and watch your days of negative spiralling become distant memories.
