A home in the abandoned Wild West-style nook of Morningside that few knew existed has been converted into “a compact space perfect for young professionals”.
The derelict Western “ghost town” in which it stands, El Paso, was designed by the son of Northern Ireland’s last prime minister.
Michael Faulkner hired Disney engineers to fashion the alleyway into a frontier man’s paradise to promote the high-quality furniture businesses he founded following a fall from his horse- an injury that led him to abandon his cowboy lifestyle in North America and settle in Scotland.
Locals describe it as “shambolic and a bit dilapidated” and reported Faulkner’s enterprises as successful until an Ikea opened in Edinburgh’s outskirts. The new developments are doubtless an attempt to breathe new life into a once lively and still “quirky” corner of the city.
The Scotland-based Shepha Properties, having secured funds from lending company Together, said their “mission is to contribute towards tackling the UK housing shortage one family at a time.”
It remains to be seen if Shepha Properties and Together will see a sizable return on their curious investment.
