Review : Cappuccino

Edinburgh is by no means short of coffee shops. As someone on a mission to visit a new one each week, I’m quickly working my way through the city’s offerings. One of my favourite discoveries so far is Cappuccino, a charming café tucked away on Jeffrey Street, just a stone’s throw away from Waverley Station and the Royal Mile. It’s a perfect little escape in the heart of the city.

Its welcoming burnt plaster exterior sets the tone for a warm and inviting space. Fairy lights twinkle, vinyl records and vintage posters line the limewash walls and rich dark wood table and chairs add to the cosy aesthetic. The burnt plaster colour is continued in a dropped ceiling paint design which makes it even more snug. At the back, an even cosier corner awaits – armchairs gathered in front of fireplace, perfect for settling in with a book or catching up with a friend. A quick scroll through their Instagram (@cappuccinoedinburgh) showcases just how effortlessly aesthetic yet welcoming this place is.

Moreover, the staff are fantastic – friendly, welcoming and happy to chat about all things coffee. Their passion is reflected in the drinks, with well-balanced and beautifully crafted specialty coffees at reasonable prices. A flat white costs £3.70, a good deal in Edinburgh’s competitive coffee scene (and it was just £3.40 a few months ago—an absolute steal!). And for non-coffee drinkers, there are many good options – Chai Lattes, Matcha, and Turmeric Lattes. For those with a sweet tooth, the pastry selection is impossible to resist; the window display of cakes, croissants, and pastries look incredible – I have my eye on the honey cake for next time!

It is the perfect café for many occasions. Whether you’re studying, reading, catching up with friends, or waiting for a train, Cappuccino is the perfect spot. Its warm and bustling atmosphere strikes a rare balance—cosy enough to linger in for hours, yet lively enough for a quick visit. Thoughtful touches, like vintage train posters of the South Queensferry crossing and an abundance of plants, add to the café’s unique charm.

This place quickly became my favourite café in Edinburgh and I’ll take any excuse to return. The quality, five-star service and value for money is outrageous, especially for a coffee shop in the centre of Edinburgh. If you haven’t been yet, make sure to try this one out the next time you are nearby!
