Over the past few weeks, the sun has been making a much-anticipated, slow-burn comeback, with the temperature reaching double digits.
On Sunday 9 March, temperatures of 14C were recorded.
Edinburgh is known and loved for its world-renowned gloomy melancholy aesthetic, a city where autumn seems to permanently reside – but it seems that the student community much prefer the rare sunny days.
As warmer days arrive, students have returned to the pub gardens and started to fill up lecture halls once more.
“It literally takes everything in me to want to go to the gym,” Destiny tells The Student. “Today was the first sunny day we’ve had in forever and all of a sudden I’m skipping to the gym. Sunny weather really does make you want to be more productive.”
“Genuinely, the mood switch is insane when it’s sunny; it helps so much,” said Freya, another student.
2024 was the fourth warmest year on record, but 2025 started with the coldest January temperatures in 15 years.
Recent analysis has shown that Spring is the fastest warming of all four seasons, with average spring temperatures 1.8C higher than in 1970.
