Sweet or Savoury: Get your Pancakes at Stack & Still

Sunday morning. 11 AM. You want to go out for brunch but have no idea where to go. Introducing Stack & Still at Bonnie & Wild in St James Quarter.

If you’re planning on splurging £15 on pancakes, here’s my advice: bring a friend and go halves on both a sweet and savoury option. That’s exactly what my friend and I did – and we weren’t disappointed.

The only downside? These pancakes are filling. The word “stack” is no exaggeration. But if you’re showing up hungry, you’re in for a treat.

Our savoury choice, the Hot Honey Crisp Chicken Stack, was the highlight. It’s a combination that shouldn’t work – but it absolutely does. Two perfectly crisp fried chicken tenders piled onto thick, fluffy pancakes, topped with chipotle slaw and drizzled with hot honey. I opted to have the cheese taken off because I am a #cheesehater, but I’m sure that if yours came with cheese, it would only enhance the taste.

Then came the Nutella Pretzel Stack. Sweet, rich, and downright delectable. A mountain of pancakes layered with Nutella and caramel, topped with whipped Chantilly cream and finished with a crunchy pretzel on top. It’s indulgent and definitely one for anyone with a serious sweet tooth. I was grateful we had the savoury stack to balance things out as two sweet stacks might have been too much.

Stack & Still is definitely up there for me in terms of the pancakes I’ve had in Edinburgh and for brunch generally. The staff are also super friendly and happy to help if you’re stuck on what to choose.

It’s not your everyday kind of brunch because it’s not exactly budget-friendly. But sometimes, when it’s Week Three and you’re somehow four weeks behind on uni work, £15 pancakes are naturally the solution (definitely not speaking from personal experience).

Pro tip: Go early & grab an iced matcha from illy on the side – that’s Sunday brunch sorted!
