Being uncomfortable is a great way to improve and push yourself. In a post-COVID 19 world where we have all become too comfortable protecting our own peace, we often forget that being uncomfortable can ultimately end up being more beneficial for our wellbeing.
Michael Easter conveys this through his 2 per cent manifesto that shows how we often choose the easy options in life which favours short-term comfort. 2 per cent is the number of people who choose to take the stairs instead of the escalator, when 100 per cent knows taking the stairs is the better option. To be a 2 percenter means following the people who choose the slightly harder option which can help improve their day-to-day life.
This metaphor can be applied to the serious and the unserious, such as how we spend our free time, work, and eat. So, if you are looking for a quick way to improve yourself, why not try be a 2 percenter for the day? Cook a new recipe instead of ordering food, take the scenic route to class instead of the shortcut, or read/listen to a book instead of doomscrolling on TikTok. Whatever it is, be uncomfortable and be a part of the 2 per cent.
