Turning it around: mastering the monthly reset

Goodbye October, hello November! The start of a new month always feels like a breath of fresh air and a great opportunity to reset, refocus, and realign. Whether you’re deep in midterms or finally breathing after submitting them, November is the perfect time to pause and check in with yourself.

We’re firmly back into university life now, juggling deadlines, lectures, and social plans. It’s one of the best times of the year—cosy nights, autumn leaves, and a string of festivities on the horizon—but it can also feel like time is quickly slipping away. The key? A good reset.

1. Creatively organise your calendar
The first step to any reset is getting your calendar in order. Write down deadlines, plans, and appointments so you can see the month ahead clearly. It’s a simple task, but it instantly makes you feel calmer. While you’re at it, schedule time for hobbies and friends that make you feel good. This time of year can get hectic, so protect time for joy and connection, not just productivity.

2. Have a flat reset
Halloween and midterms don’t usually leave your room in the best shape. Do a full reset: hoover, change your sheets, and maybe declutter. Challenge yourself to get rid of five things you don’t need anymore, whether it’s old notes, clothes, or random junk. You’ll be surprised how much lighter and clearer your space, and your mind, feels.

3. Find your monthly motivation
If you need a little inspiration, head to Pinterest. I love making a new board for each month filled with ideas of what I want the next few weeks to look like, maybe even some new recipes to try. Reflecting at the end of each month on what you brought to life (and what you didn’t) feels like keeping a visual journal of your growth.

4. Positive goalmaking
Forget restrictive resolutions. Instead of ‘no takeaways’, try ‘make my own lunches during the week’. Small, positive swaps build momentum and feel achievable. I also love making mini bucket lists for each season–they help me live more seasonally. They can be the silliest things; one of mine last month was to get candlesticks for my bedroom—they’ve become a lovely part of my evening routine!

5. Reflect and refresh
Take a few minutes to journal: what were your wins in October? What do you want to carry into November, and what can you leave behind? Writing it down helps you feel more grounded and intentional.

Think of the start of the month as the ultimate Sunday reset, just on a bigger scale. November can feel dark and slow as the days shorten, but that makes it even more important to care for yourself and your space. So here’s to a calm, peaceful, and purposeful November: may it be full of fresh starts and cosy moments.
