When I Grow Up, I Want To Be A Book Character

Growing up is but the main test for the first half of your life. To figure that out, most of us rely  on the role models we have grown up with, from superheroes to villains, from main to secondary characters.

Personally, one of my most beloved wannabe characters was Wendy from Peter Pan. Oh to be a beautiful girl in a gown who gets taken to Neverland by a breath of pixie dust. Talking about  fairies, as much as Tinkerbell was supposed to be the protagonist, the one fairy that caught my attention from the start was Silvermist. Not only does her name bring justice to her ethereal and dainty appearance, but also to her benevolent nature. What’s more, I always thought her powers were the coolest out of all the fairies. As chic as catalysing flowers’ bloom is, who wouldn’t love to be able to maneuver water and communicate with baby fishes?

Another character I was amazed by while growing up was the Cheshire cat from Alice in  Wonderland. You mean I can just sit on a branch watching people go by and scaring them out  of the blue? And that I don’t even have to give an explanation for it? Because, let’s be honest, he never needed to justify his actions and everyone just kind of went with it. Plus, he was the funniest character from the story, but we did not fully understand him when we were kids. Actually, if you asked me, I think he carried the whole story. And do not even get me started on the second best character, the Mad Hatter. His only care in the world was to spend hours drinking tea in his own pretty little garden. What’s more, he was not even worried about clarifying any of his hysteric behaviour because, well, he was the Mad Hatter, so everyone just coped with it.

Continuing with animals, one of the characters I was the most jealous of was Winnie the  Pooh. I found it so whimsical to be able to live in a little cottage in the woods. Besides, he  would always manage to have time for himself in his little home, yet also having all of his friends around. Somehow they were all neighbours. For some reason, getting to wear cute and cosy pyjamas all day while having ridiculous amounts of honey just sounded like the plan for me.

Last but not least (maybe yes), as disliked as villains were when we were kids, I have always been an Ursula fan. I used to think (and still do) that she was the coolest out of the villains. The hair? The make up? The nails? The jewelry? Not only did I love her style, but also her cutesy cave, with all her potions, her dresser, and her witchy items. She had such a curated aesthetic that was so signature of her, and that made her so mesmerising. Yes, she might have done some questionable things but I mean, we all have, haven’t we?
