Professor Danielle Gunn-Moore, Personal Chair of Feline Medicine at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, has been awarded an OBE for her services to feline veterinary medicine.
She was one of the 1157 recipients included in the King’s New Year Honours List.
Professor Gunn-Moore first joined the University of Edinburgh in 1985 as a student, and was appointed the second lecturer in Feline Medicine in the UK in 1998, later becoming Chair of Feline Medicine in 2006.
She has lectured internationally and received awards from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) and the International Society for Feline Medicine.
She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Royal Society of Biology.
Professor Gunn-Moore held a senior position at the University of Bristol before joining the University of Edinburgh, and has been academically based in Edinburgh for almost 40 years.
She is one of three Chairs of Feline Medicine in the world, focusing her research on feline infectious diseases, aging, and chronic conditions.
The King’s New Year Honours list typically features university staff and previous alumni.
Simon Milne, Honorary Professor in the School of Biological Sciences and 16th Regius Keeper of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, was included in this year’s list for his services to conservation and botany.
Other recipients on the King’s New Year Honours List this year include actor Idris Elba, ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and writer Meera Syal.
