Single Review: ‘Bring Me To Life’ by Tiësto featuring FORS

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Tiësto’s career is one of the most impressive in dance music. Spanning more than 30 years of music, the Dutch DJ has held DJ Magazine’s title of “No. 1. DJ in the World” three times, and Mixmag’s ‘Greatest DJ of All Time’ award, as well as being a Grammy Award winner. Tiësto’s career started in the genre of trance, before shifting around 2008 to EDM and the more commercial side of dance music. But with his new release ‘Bring Me To Life’, the legend finally returns to his origins.

The track features powerful vocals from Swedish singer FORS, and a reminiscent trance melody that makes the song sound like it would fit in place on one of his albums from 20 or even 30 years ago. After a haunting intro, the vocals from FORS are isolated, allowing the tension to build before the melody and the drop.

The song does lack the length and gradual build-up that was found on many of Tiësto’s early classic tracks (2001’s ‘Suburban Train’ clocks in at 10:21), potentially to be tailored to a more mainstream audience that has followed Tiësto since he left trance.

However, there is still plenty to like about ‘Bring Me To Life’, such as the emotive vocals from FORS, and the enhancing melody and high-energy courtesy of Tiësto.

The new release was accompanied by two notable full-trance DJ sets, one at Dreamstate Festival in California, and another at the picturesque Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Both sets featured plenty of classic Trance records, along with many new unreleased Tiësto tracks, which we can expect to hear when his new album is released later this year.
