Artist Profile: Lily Leaver

Art Editor Kayleigh Yule Sits down with a Fourth-year Fine Arts Student

Lily Leaver, a fourth-year Fine Arts student at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), is positioned as a printmaker, a pragmatic thinker, and certainly an articulate and introspective artist. Working within the complex themes of extraction and unsteady world politics through the concept of Ecological Dystopias, Lily’s approach to her process of making finds her enveloped within dystopic literature. Reading Atwood’s Dancing Girls, Fitzgerald’s Flappers and Philosophers, and The Diamond as Big as the Ritz, Lily is an artist that approaches art beyond convention.

Finding her footing within printmaking, Lily blends experimental and classical methods of etching and printing within her practice. This passion for print and working alongside the printmaking department has inspired Lily’s upcoming exhibition Last Press, 6 March 2025, at Coffee Cabinet. The exhibition aims to highlight the mutual admiration of the artists Lily has worked alongside in the ECA printmaking department.
