Edinburgh Fringe 2026: Dreamgun Film Reads

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dreamgun has made a show that is hilarious for those who love films, and for those who love to laugh. The show collects a different group of comedians every day to perform a famous movie script that looks slightly different to how you remember it.

It has been made into an hour of non-stops laughs. Jokes about the film are integrated into the script turning it into a new and perhaps better version of the original. The films change each night so check which most intrigues you before you go.

I went to see Stephen Colfer, Corey Peter Lane, Jack Shortall, Sophia Wren, Patrick Conlan and Rosie Nichs perform Jumanji, which I had seen prior and loved but seeing Dreamgun’s version of it has increased my appreciation for Jumanji even more. The writing was very dark and often ridiculous, which made for laughs of every kind. At points I would laugh at straightforward jokes about casting and other strange aspects of the original, and then I would be caught off guard laughing about the gore of summoning animals. I even found myself laughing out of confusion as they changed the ending into something ridiculous, yet believable from a 90’s film.

While I bet some groups of comedians will be better than others, the scripted jokes were funny enough to save any awkwardness. The comedians at my show were great at embodying their respective characters— they were able to perform the script in a way that added to it, creating even more laughs. Some moments did seem to be a little awkward, such as when the comedians weren’t prepared for another to act out the lines. However, they were able to recover and make their performances bigger and better as the show progressed.

If you are looking to fill some time with an absolutely hilarious show, then consider Dreamgun Film Reads. I will definitely be going to see a different show of theirs in the future.
