An ode to The Pear Tree

If you’ve lived in Edinburgh for any stretch of time, been a part of any student societies, or sought out an affordable pint near the university campus, you’re probably already familiar with Pear Tree. For those less fortunate, let me introduce you to your new go-to post-lecture pub.

Located between George Square and Nicholson Street, Pear Tree’s the perfect spot to unwind after a particularly challenging library session. In the sparing summer months, it offers an expansive pub garden that truly is the place to be when the sun is out. In the winter months (which, let’s face it, in Edinburgh, is most of them) the pub’s cosy interior, complete with a crackling fireplace, is the perfect place to warm up before heading home to your freezing student flat.

If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s hunting out a great discount. With the 20 per cent off Pear Tree offers to students, there’s no hunting required. What more to say except pass me my Tennent’s?

Having been The Student’s meeting place after writers’ meetings for longer than I’ve been a part of the newspaper, Pear Tree has truly earned a place in my heart. The home of many gossip sessions, far too many pints, and endless memories, I’ll never say no to a trip to The Pear Tree.
