I want to start with my top book recommendations for the summer. These books have a great summery vibe and leave you feeling warm inside. I highly recommend adding these to your TBR.
Grown Ups by Marian Keyes
I read this last summer and it was so fun and chilled. It’s all about a large family and their secrets and intricacies. I love how each character gets their own story and there is insight into so many different life stages and the subsequent struggles.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
This book is quite deep at times and explores the depths and nuances of human morality and experience. It is set in North Carolina in the swamps, and you can feel the humidity as you read Owens’ detailed descriptions of the breath-taking landscape.
The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary
This book recounts the events of a group of friends who meet on holiday in the South of France. After the group reunite for a mutual friend’s wedding, they are forced to think back to those summer days when things made sense.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This book tells the story of a family who reunite each summer at the lakes and tells of the adventures they have but a shocking twist reveals that things are not as they seem.
Now onto my summer TBR and what I am most looking forward to reading. The summer is such a good time to read and relax in the sunshine.
Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson
I have read some of his other books, but I look forward to reading this one because it is all about the UK and his writing is always witty and hilarious. Bill Bryson writes about his experiences of life and the world in an informative but fun way. This book comments on British culture and its peculiarities.
Beach Read by Emily Henry
This book sounds like the perfect summer romance to flick through as you tan and sit by the pool. Two people come together despite their differences. It looks like opposites attract after all.
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
You could replace this with any TJR book, and it would be equally as commendable. Having read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six, I look forward to diving into more of this authors books. This one looks like an especially fun romance where two people reunite after a long time apart – but will it still work after so long?
Magnolia Parks by Jessa Hastings
I have heard a lot of good things about this from Book Tok, so I hope it is worth the hype! A book with similar vibes to Gossip Girl where teenagers with far too much money wreak havoc.
Summerwater by Sarah Moss
This book tells of different characters and their stories all taking place one summer in the Scottish countryside. One day, they are all brought together by something dark, and I look forward to finding out what that is.
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
This one sounds a little darker, but I like the idea of sleeping for a year. Summer is the perfect time to doze and take things slower and I think this book would fit the vibe.
Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney
Having read Normal People and Conversations with Friends, I am intrigued to read the latest of Rooney’s books. I look forward to more deep dives into the experience of being human and flawed relationships.
Happy reading!
